You picked a name. You gathered your documents. You submitted your application. Then, silence. Or a query. Or a flat rejection.

Here are the real reasons CAC applications get rejected or delayed.

1. Your Name May Not Be as Free as You Think

This is the single most common reason applications stall. CAC rejects names that are too close to one already registered. Adding a word like "Nigeria," "Global," or "and Sons" often isn't enough to make a name distinct.

Some words need special permission you may not have yet. Names that hint at government backing, or use words like "Federal," "National," or "Chamber of Commerce," fall into this group. A name that's too vague or generic can also get rejected for not standing out.

2. Documents That Are Blurry, Expired, or the Wrong Format

Every scanned ID, photo, and proof of address gets checked closely. A blurry scan causes delays. So does an expired ID. So does a utility bill that's too old. Black and white scans are often rejected outright — color is expected.

3. Small Mismatches Across the Form

A name spelled one way in one place and another way elsewhere. An address that doesn't quite match. Missing shareholder details. CAC checks your whole application for consistency, not just each part on its own.

4. Errors in the MEMART (For Limited Companies)

If you're registering a limited company, your MEMART has its own risks. Wrong share capital figures. Vague business objects. Clauses that don't follow the standard format. Any of these can trigger a rejection.

5. The Wrong Business Classification

Your business classification matters more than it seems. Pick the wrong activity code and you may face a query now. Worse, it can cause real problems later if your sector needs extra approval down the line.

6. Payment That Doesn't Reconcile

Sometimes the payment gateway glitches. Sometimes a payment doesn't match your application automatically. Keep your payment confirmation on hand, just in case.

7. A CAC Query You Never Answered

Sometimes CAC doesn't reject an application outright. It raises a query instead, and waits. If nobody answers, the registration simply sits there.
